ABSTRACT

One of the problems generated by the COVID-19 disease is the negative impact that the infodemic causes on people. The infodemic is generated from the excess of information and misinformation that increases exponentially. As a consequence, the infodemic makes it difficult to find reliable sources of information and to obtain information validated by experts in the medical field, which is accessible and understandable to all. One of the strategies used to address this problem is the use of specialized information systems that provide support to reduce disinformation and to disseminate reliable information. In order to address this problem, this paper presents: i) a process model based on filtering by health professionals, structuring by communication professionals and acquisition of customized information based on users preferences, to manage information on the COVID-19 disease for a specific community, ii) the design of a system that implements the proposed process to generate reliable and quality information accessible to the target audience and, iii) the development and preliminary evaluation of the information filtering system on the COVID-19 disease, as a proof of concept that implements some of the main activities of the proposed process. The results of this preliminary evaluation with health professionals are promising, as they provide evidence of the usefulness and ease of use of the system to generate reliable and quality information. Finally, a set of insights is presented for filtering information for the design of systems that seek to provide support to reduce the negative impact of the infodemic. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

ABSTRACT

Vocal cord paralysis is a rare but severe complication after orotracheal intubation. The most common cause is traumatic, due to compression of the recurrent laryngeal nerve between the orotracheal tube cuff and the thyroid cartilage. Other possible causes are direct damage to the vocal cords during intubation, dislocation of the arytenoid cartilages, or infections, especially viral infections. It is usually due to a recurrent laryngeal nerve neuropraxia, and the course is benign in most patients. We present the case of a man who developed late bilateral vocal cord paralysis after pneumonia complicated with respiratory distress due to SARS-CoV-2 that required orotracheal intubation for 11 days. He presented symptoms of dyspnea 20 days after discharge from hospital with subsequent development of stridor, requiring a tracheostomy. Due to the temporal evolution, a possible contribution of the SARS-CoV-2 infection to the picture is pointed out.

ABSTRACT

Nowadays companies and tourism need to make themselves known by different means and among them the most used is marketing because they develop competitively in the market. Quevedo is a tourist city in Ecuador, constituted as one of the most important river ports of the country and therefore seeks to generate tourism in the River Route Avenue through entrepreneurship, that by the global economic crisis COVID-19 some establishments had to close, others went bankrupt and the economy was destabilized generating unemployment and that is where the question is born How to provide access to tourist information for visitors arriving in the Canton Quevedo? The objective was to design strategies for the use of digital marketing through "QR" codes as elements that facilitate access to tourist information for visitors to the city of Quevedo. In the investigation the qualitative and quantitative methodology was used, allowing through the methods the theoretical analysis inductive, deductive, descriptive, descriptive, mathematical statistics that allowed to obtain from the surveys necessary information for the promotion of tourist sites, establishing necessary resources and strategies, achieving in the course explain the technology with information of the "QR" codes for the implementation in the different ventures allowing to see the functionalities, resources necessary technology to publicize the implementation of online marketing in the canton Quevedo through technological programs easy to obtain from any device.

ABSTRACT

Currently, Mipymes present great challenges with the accelerated technological transformation caused by the Covid-19 pandemic. Entrepreneurs need to strengthen their knowledge regarding the application of digital marketing tools to face competitiveness and productivity; For this reason, this research had the primary objective of designing a methodological structure of digital marketing tools that enable the generation of added value to the products and services of Mipymes in the Quevedo canton. The applied methodology was qualitative-quantitative, inductive, and deductive methods, and bibliographic, the survey was used as a method of collecting information. The development of this research contributed to the development of digital marketing tools for 50 Mipymes in the Quevedo canton.

ABSTRACT

The 2030 Sustainable Development Goals agenda calls for health data to be disaggregated by age. However, age groupings used to record and report health data vary greatly, hindering the harmonisation, comparability, and usefulness of these data, within and across countries. This variability has become especially evident during the COVID-19 pandemic, when there was an urgent need for rapid cross-country analyses of epidemiological patterns by age to direct public health action, but such analyses were limited by the lack of standard age categories. In this Personal View, we propose a recommended set of age groupings to address this issue. These groupings are informed by age-specific patterns of morbidity, mortality, and health risks, and by opportunities for prevention and disease intervention. We recommend age groupings of 5 years for all health data, except for those younger than 5 years, during which time there are rapid biological and physiological changes that justify a finer disaggregation. Although the focus of this Personal View is on the standardisation of the analysis and display of age groups, we also outline the challenges faced in collecting data on exact age, especially for health facilities and surveillance data. The proposed age disaggregation should facilitate targeted, age-specific policies and actions for health care and disease management.
